All local weather data is collected from a weather station located on the roof of the Renovation 2050 project. Data is regularly collected and analyzed to be used in different research taking place at R2050.

TESTING

THERM is a program used to generate heat flow models of both wall assemblies and glazing units. At each different wall assembly type a U-value is generated based on present conditions.

All windows use an effective quadruple pane gas filled Insulated Glazing Unit, however there are three different types of frames. The first, second and third floors have a fixed and operable type with 1 1/2" frame for exterior consistency. The basement windows are all fixed with a slim 1/2" frame.

Using an Infrared camera heat loss within the envelope can be noted and addressed. As an example with the first instance a whole within the insulation was repaired after construction due to animal damage.

Through interior sensors data is collected on the interior temperature and relative humidity constantly. The data is collected in the R2050 home as well as two neighbors in order to compare the result.

The airtightness of the Renovation 2050 project house involves ongoing blower door test measurements to analyze the changes over a longer period of time and during different exterior temperatures.

Using electrical and gas bills the cooling and heating energy bills within the R2050 project were calculated.

As a part of Renovation2050, low cost strategies to reduce exposure to EMF were incorporated in the pre-design phase and constructed as integrated processes throughout the project.  In order to gauge the relative and geographical effectiveness of the mitigation strategies, in-situ EMF levels were compared to both pre-retrofit and surrounding neighbourhood levels.
